Lakes Pace was founded in 2012. It started with an amazing experience the summer of 2010: standing on a SUP for the first time, as if walking on water, surrounded by nature and life and feeling full of wonder and peace. Then, final relaxation on a mat at the end of a yoga class, visualizing lying on a SUP board instead...floating on the surface of the water, feeling the breeze across the surface of the lake, hearing the chirping of the birds in the trees along the shore, and rocking gently with the lapping of the waves under the board. Experiencing yoga outside, on the water, surrounded by nature. What a feeling! I was finishing my 200hr yoga certification through YogaFit at the time and felt invigorated and so alive with this experience that I simply had to share it. These two fitness genres-paddling and yoga-are two of my favorite active things to do! My vision stuck with me...and with support from my husband, Lakes Pace became a business. My husband built my SUP trailer and in the spring of 2012, with a fleet of 10 SUP boards, I took SUP yoga and fitness classes on the boards to Detroit Lakes and surrounding areas.
To us, living the "Lakes Pace" of life is about taking one day at a time, breathing deeply, taking opportunities and making the most out of every day. Making time for our health and fitness so that we can bring the best version of ourselves in other areas of our lives. So, take a big breath, soak in the sunshine, and get ready to experience a little taste of a lifestyle that will keep you coming back for more (and more and more)! You might just find yourself falling in love with SUP yoga...or perhaps our lakes and our growing town too!
If you feel nervous, that's OK. But be assured, you'll be in good hands! As a former lifeguard & swim instructor, I hold current certifications from Red Cross (since 2001) as well as group fitness certification from ACE (American Counsel on Exercise since 2003) and RYT (500 hr yoga teacher certification from Yoga Alliance...200 hr certified since 2012). I have taught SUP to participants of all ages and abilities. I love what I do and I hope you love it too!
